RCMSL 15th Charter Anniversary

The beginning was momentous as well as memorable. The start of the Rotary Club of Makati San Lorenzo (RCMSL), 15 years ago, was in parallel to the purpose of giving support to the Tuloy sa Don Bosco project of Fr. Rocky Evangelista which then had only 12 street children in their care. CP Renie Andrews along with 20 Charter members of RCMSL, PDG Guiller Tumangan and Rotarians of RC Makati West aptly held the charter ceremony at Don Bosco in Makati.

With a shared mission, RCMSL and Tuloy sa Don Bosco have grown together through the years. Tuloy sa Don Bosco is now situated in a 45,000 sq. meters facility in Alabang with more than 600 street children in their care. RCMSL, has equally grown to a total of 38 members and made great achievements, successful projects and earned numerous awards since then.

April 2 was indeed a joyful day as RCMSL celebrated their 15th Charter Anniversary at the Tuloy sa Don Bosco in Alabang. For the big day RCMSL, instead of having a lavish event, opted to have a simpler yet meaningful one by donating the 50,000 pesos allocated money to the Tuloy Foundation, Inc. With the generosity of their guests, they were also able to raise more than 10,000 pesos. Various sponsors and donors also gave ample support: Nestle Philippines donated 30,000 pesos worth of cereals, AM Europharma gave 280 bottles of Vitamin C, RC Makati East through PP Regie Casas donated 1 sack of rice, PP Cynthia Reyes donated 200 backpacks, and sister club RC Chinatown Manila also committed to give 150 school bags for the kids. Snacks and goodies were provided by a new member, Ms. Mylene Kasilag. Jollibee Foods Corporation was the event’s major food sponsor. The kids were so delighted when Jollibee came out and joined in the festivities.

One of the highlights of the event was the very touching rendition of the Josh Groban song “You Raised Me Up” by the children of Tuloy sa Don Bosco. A beautiful performance that never fails to touch the hearts and bring tears to the eyes of the audience.

Fr. Rocky Evangelista was fervent in encouraging all Rotarians and non-Rotarians to give continuous support to the Tuloy Foundation so that more street children will be saved and given better lives. Incoming President of the Rotary Street Children Foundation, PP Maridel Villavicencio announced the provision of rice project for the children and made an appeal to all the guests to donate rice to Tuloy sa Don Bosco. The project aims to provide the foundation with 3 sacks every month for a whole year.

SP Ruping Rodillas of RC Makati Northwest, who was deeply moved by the celebration, also shared his views on the recently concluded event saying that it was a great honor to be a part of it. He will encourage their incoming officers to hold their upcoming induction in Tuloy sa Don Bosco, thereby making their club members more aware of the importance of supporting the foundation and more receptive to the needs of the street children.

RCMSL, as always, will be Tuloy sa Don Bosco’s staunch supporter. Together with Fr. Rocky Evangelista, the Rotary will continue to create extensive awareness and generate support for the foundation.
